January Happenings in and Around Ocala

January 1, 2020

Start 2020 off by being active and involved in and around Ocala. There are plenty of  things to do in our beautiful city. Attend a horse show or a fashion show, listen to live music in the park or at the Reilly Arts Center, watch a race...or run one! Here is just a sampling of what's happening this month.


January 3, 6-9 pm     

First Friday Artwalk, Downtown Ocala Square. Support local artists, performers, shops and restaurants around the square.


January 4-5            

Florida High School Rodeo, Southeastern Livestock Pavilion                   


January 5, 3 pm

Annual Ocala Young Artists Competition, Reilly Arts Center. See the finalists of this music competition perform with their accompanists. Tickets $10 


January 7                  

Public schools resume classes


January 12, 2-4 pm   

2020 Prom Show, Silver Springs State Park. See the2020 prom fashions and donate gently-used prom attire. Admission $5 


January 17, 6-9 pm   

Spring Art Park Series, Tuscawilla Park. Enjoy live music by Little Tybee and opening act Wallysburg. Admission $5


January 18-20       

Awesomesauce: A Wild Things Event, Baseline Trailhead. If you have ‘run a race’ on your New Year’s resolutions list, you can check it off at this non-competitive event that offers multiple distances from 5K to100K!


January 18 & 19     

Party Music, Reilly Arts Center. Raymond Chobaz and the Ocala Symphony Orchestra perform music of some of the Soviet’s most gifted composers.


January 19, 7 am      

Ocala Half Marathon and 5K. You don’t have to be a runner to enjoy the race. Come out and cheer or sign up to volunteer. Race begins behind the Paddock Mall and runs through beautiful horse country.


January 20              

Martin Luther King Day, School holiday


January 22              

Public schools Teacher Work Day, early release


January 26, 1-3 pm 

Polo at the Park, Florida Horse Park. Take in a polo match and tailgate with friends. Tickets required.


January 31, 6-9 pm  

Grandview Invitational, Florida Horse Park. A breathtaking display of enormous, athletic horses performing choreographed maneuvers to music while pulling hitch wagons. Tickets required.
